Bafta has suspended Noel Clarke’s membership following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The academy said in a statement it had also suspended his outstanding British contribution to cinema award, which he was handed earlier this month at the Royal Albert Hall until further notice.
The claims were levelled against Clarke, best known for appearing in Doctor Who and for co-creating The Hood Trilogy, in The Guardian.
Clarke vehemently denied the allegations in a statement to the newspaper.

  • Must have missed the court case, where he was found guilty

    Juan AtkinsJuan Atkins4 days ago
    • @EngrishDave - That's their point. He has had his award withdrawn despite not being found guilty of anything. This is literally a case of guilty until proven innocent. He may very well be guilty but we used to treat people as innocent until they were proven guilty in a court of law. I do agree it is pretty disgusting that BAFTA gives him those awards and use him for promotion and then as soon as he is accused take it away. I do think they should wait until there is proof.

    • How do you mean? Basically saying that he hasn't even been to court yet he is all over the papers and internet without even being proven guilty?

      EngrishDaveEngrishDave4 days ago
  • Having worked in mainstream media I can assure you The Guardian has real proof that has gone through their legal dept. If not they risk a defamation lawsuit by Mr. Clarke. Its a solid piece of investigative journalism of allegations spanning 15years by women who don't know each other and some provided emails and texts.

  • If a person goes to the media BEFORE they go to the police, it is almost certain the person is lying. Because making false or exaggerated allegations to the press has no consequences, but making them to the police does. Also, I firmly believe that anyone accused of ANY crime should remain anonymous until they are convicted.

  • So, ITV will now not show the last episode of Viewpoint. Noel himself has been suspended and everyone is calling for his head, yet he hasn't been found guilty of any crime. Typical lefty Nazi mentality. When will people learn?

  • I've read the guardian article nothing seems to amount to criminal conduct, but definitely believable accounts of bullying and sexual harassment, which I suspect are prevalent across the industry with accounts that are far worse

    Kellie HuKellie Hu5 days ago
    • @Mario’s Kublan I think his reputation isn't as blemish free as you suggest and it's likely shining a light on his conduct in a court of law will do him no favours. I think the behaviour he's been accused of is pretty commonplace in the industry - not to make light of it. That along with the cost of defamation case will mean, he'll probably wait for this one to blow over.

      Kellie HuKellie Hu5 days ago
    • @Kellie Hu Kellie it sure is a hell of a lot of money. Apparently his friend has also stated how he has already spent a substantial amount on Private Investigators not to forget his legal counsel. However, the fundamental point here is that he is a superstar whom has had a more than glittering career of recent, and therefore I’m assuming that he would spare no costs (even if that meant going broke) to rekindle his status and popularity. If he can save face and get a reasonable decision, if not be vindicated in the courts, like Alex Salmond, then he can always recoup the losses with future projects - but yes this is a big IF!

      Mario’s KublanMario’s Kublan5 days ago
    • @Lee Sylvester it's not a matter of "justice" until the civil or criminal justice system is involved. Until then anyone has every right to protect their brand, particularly if they act with the bounds of the law, contractual or otherwise.

      Kellie HuKellie Hu5 days ago
    • @Lee Sylvester Those were both criminal cases brought by the crown of sexual assault and rape. No one is suggesting Clarke should face criminal charges. He's also admitted to behaviour in the same vein as other accusations, and some of the accounts have been corroborated. I doubt very much he'll be bringing a defamation case.

      Kellie HuKellie Hu5 days ago
    • @Kellie Hu that's still not how the justice system works. Look at Alex Salmond. He had ten accusers and was found innocent on all counts. Look at the John Leslie case. The correct legal paths must be followed. You can't condemn a person until the justice system has tried them, even if that person was caught with the murder weapon. That's not how justice works. What if we later find Noel Clarke agreed to admit to certain acts due to blackmail, and actually he was totally innocent? Just remember all those women burned at the stake, as witches, throughout history! There can be no "buts" about it. This is the 21st Century for crying out loud!

Decon always said he was a bully but i followed both of them even though they had a big fight, i loved noel a little more as an actor to be honest but now i look back when decon hit rock bottom and said noel puts on this front and is actually a very bad bully. i See that now, 20 people came forward you can't escape that. he's done. Time to remove the legend he was from my life and hope decon makes it big.

    • @Hilary Miseroy Well said Hilary. There are period's in our lives, when our brain's are ruled by other things, than common sense. That is what males do from time to time. We are designed by nature to be 'chasers'. And before anyone else jumps on me; if anyone is guilty of criminality, then I would not agree to that. The problem, as I see it, is that people's past behaviour should be judged by the norms of those times, not by today's PC, Woke and any other ridiculous acronyms, because it's impossible to work out, just what social norms will be, in 10 years time, let alone 20, 30 or 40 years time. I'm also afraid, that some people think the Guardian is the epitome of truth and it's ok to keep pressing for the emasculation of men, and in some cases for monetary gain.

      Richard WRichard W4 days ago
    • well said there seems to be no more mention of prince andrew any more@Hilary Miseroy

      Vivian AqyarkoVivian Aqyarko4 days ago
    • If you read the Guardian piece there is really nothing that approaches any level of criminality so I can't see any Court involvement at all. What he seems to be guilty of is using his position and allowing his dick to rule his brain. Pretty normal behaviour for most blokes on occasion but the big difference is he is rich and famous so he is a target. Maybe The Guardian should google Liam Scarlett.
